Haryana Opinion Poll: CM Manohar Lal Khattar projected to win Karnal

Chief Minister and BJP leader Manohar Lal Khattar is projected to retain Karnal in the upcoming Haryana assembly elections, as per the Jan Ki Baat Opinion poll

As the political tussle heats up in poll-bound Haryana, sitting Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party contestant from Karnal seat Manohar Lal Khattar has used every tool at his disposal, from social media to crowded election rallies, to drive his re-election pitch. He is pitted against Congress candidate Tarlochan Singh and Jannayak Janata Party's Tej Bahadur Yadav. The BJP has a target of winning over 75 seats in the 90-member Assembly. Khattar had won Karnal with 82,485 votes in the 2014 Assembly polls, defeating his Congress rival Jai Parkash Gupta.

As per Jan Ki Baat's Opinion poll based on ground surveys ahead of the Haryana assembly elections, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is projected to retain his Karnal seat. Meanwhile, overall in the state, the BJP is likely to increase its seats to the range of 58-70 whereas the JJP may win five to eight seats. Congress is likely to get 12-18 seats whereas INLD is projected to win one state.

Punjabi dominated Karnal Seat

Comprising six villages and 16 Municipal wards, Karnal has around 2.38 lakh voters and is a constituency dominated by the Punjabi community of which Khattar is a part. CM Khattar had performed a 'havan' before filing his nomination papers on October 1. Voters will on Monday decide how much of his prayers will be answered.

2014 Haryana elections

The BJP had won 47 seats in the 2014 assembly polls and swept all the 10 seats in this year's Lok Sabha election with Karnal candidate Ashwini Kumar garnering a vote share of 49.83%. Manohar Lal Khattar in banking on keeping the momentum of the general election on throughout October 21.
