Exclusive/ 'Betrayed People of Wayanad': BJP Slams Rahul Gandhi For Dumping Kerala Seat, Picking Rae Bareli

New Delhi: decision me by Congress leer Rahul Gandhi to dump Wayan seat and retain Rae Bareli segment, two seats he contested and won in recently concluded Lok Sabha election, ignited a political firestorm. 

Speaking exclusively to Republic, former Union Minister and BJP leer Rajeev Chandrasekhar accused Rahul Gandhi of betraying people of Wayan. 

“What Rahul Gandhi did was a clear betrayal to people of Wayan. He deceived m by not disclosing that he would contest from or seats (Rae Bareli) as well.” 

He ded that re's no restriction on leers of political parties from contesting in multiple seats as many have done same in past. “But nobody has done it like Rahul Gandhi who kept voters of Wayan in dark by not telling m truth.”

“He kept shut till May 26 (Voting Day in Wayan) and n announced candidature from Rae Bareli. He betrayed m all,” BJP leer ded. 

BJP Slams Vra's Wayan Move

After Rahul Gandhi dumped Wayan seat, his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vra, who's been a party campaigner since last dece, jumped into poll race from same seat. 

Rahul Gandhi vacated Wayan seat to pick Rae Bareli, a tritional pocket borough of Gandhi family.

Taking a swipe at Congress, BJP leer Shehz Poonwalla said, “In a move that would make Machiavelli proud, Rahul Gandhi has dispensed with his sister by sending her to Wayan. He has proven that family legacy belongs to him, not sister.” 

He ded that Rahul Gandhi has positioned himself as ‘numero uno’ in ‘family-run firm' called Congress. “Priyanka who worked in UP esp Rae Bareli now has to go to Kerala and start from scratch. Left continues to be upset about Congress fighting m in Kerala - Priyanka will have to deal with this while Rahul can just relax.” 

decision to field Vra from Wayan garnered heated responses from BJP leers who labelled move as an example of ‘dynastic politics.’ 

BJP leer Poonawala also charged that Rahul Gandhi chose not to leave Rae Bareli seat as doing so could result in a BJP victory in a subsequent by-election.
