Will make efforts to see that there is no coal shortage: Union Minister Kishan Reddy
The new Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy on Monday said he would make efforts to see that there is no shortage of coal in the country.
Talking to reporters in Delhi on Monday night, he said coal plays a key role in the country's development.
He said after taking charge of the ministries, he would hold discussions with officials to prepare a plan of action for the two departments and the agenda for 100 days.
"There used to be power cuts in the country before Narendra Modi (became prime minister). The power cuts were due to unavailability of coal, lack of supply of coal. After Modi ji came, he unveiled a new India without power cuts by increasing coal production," Reddy said.
"The country is being made as one without power cuts by increasing power and grid connectivity in all states. Definitely, in the same direction, we will think of avoiding the shortage of coal and how to improve production in the days to come," he said.

Safeguarding India's border will remain topmost priority: Rajnath Singh
Safeguarding India's border will remain the topmost priority and efforts will continue to take defence manufacturing and exports to greater heights, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Monday shortly after he was retained to helm the key responsibility in the new government.
Singh was among the senior BJP leaders, including Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, Nirmala Sitharaman and S Jaishankar, who retained the ministries they handled in the previous government.
"I express my heartfelt gratitude to PM Shri @narendramodi for his continued trust and confidence in me. I shall continue to serve our motherland as India's Defence Minister," Singh said on 'X'.
"Safeguarding India's border will remain our topmost priority and we shall continue protecting India's integrity & sovereignty. Under the visionary leadership of PM Modi we shall rededicate ourselves to strengthen 'Make in India' and take defence manufacturing & exports to greater heights," he said.
Singh's assertion comes amid an over four-year border row with China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.

G Kishan Reddy gets coal, mines ministries in Modi govt 3.0
G Kishan Reddy has been appointed as the new Coal and Mines Minister in the newly-formed Modi 3.0 government.
Reddy will succeed Pralhad Joshi, who has been appointed as Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and New and Renewable Energy in the new government.
Reddy's biggest challenge will be to ensure an adequate supply of coal to electricity generating plants, which are working overtime to meet peak power demand.
Another area that would need his attention will be increasing private sector participation, expanding coal gasification and production of Coal Bed Methane.
In the mining sector, the lukewarm response from bidders to the first round auction of critical minerals underscores the need for a pragmatic policy approach.
The government had earlier cancelled the auction for 13 of the 20 blocks put on sale in the first tranche of critical minerals as the response was tepid.
Reddy retained the Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency with a margin of over 49,000 votes in the recent Lok Sabha polls, defeating his nearest Congress rival Danam Nagender.
