Lok Sabah Elections 2024: Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan on Thursday announced his candidacy for the upcoming Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections. He will contest from the Pithapuram assembly constituency. Kalyan's Jana Sena has tied alliance knot with BJP and TDP for the upcoming state and Lok Sabha polls.  

  • Preneet Kaur, suspended Congress MP and wife of former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, formally joined the BJP on Thursday, and is set to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from the family’s pocketborough of Patiala as the BJP candidate. 
  • Further, a meeting for the appointment of the Election Commissioner was held at Delhi's Lok Kalyan Marg on Thursday. Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Choudhary also participated in the meeting which finalised on the names of Sukhbir Sandhu and Gyanesh Kumar for the Election Commissioner post. The assent by the President still pending on the mentioned names. 
  • In Karnataka, former chief minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Wednesday revealed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), it alliance partner in the NDA, has agreed to concede three seats to the regional party for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. 
  • Further, a high-Level Committee on simultaneous elections, chaired by Ram Nath Kovind, Former President of India, met President Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan and submitted its report, today. Union Home Minister Amit Shah was also present.
