Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Saturday joined the clamour for Rahul Gandhi to take up the post of the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha even as the Congress deliberated on the general election results at the party's Working Committee meeting here. "Our demand is the same as that of 140 crore people of the country that Rahul Gandhi has to take the position of the leader of the opposition," Reddy said when asked whether Gandhi should assume the position of Leader of Opposition in the House.

Neighbourhood Leaders Accept Invite to Attend Modi's Swearing-in Ceremony
A host of heads of government from neighbouring countries will attend the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi as prime minister for a third consecutive term on Sunday evening. An official statement said Sri Lanka's president Ranil Wickremesinghe, Maldives' Mohamed Muizzu, Bangladesh's prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Bhutan's Tshering Tobgay, Nepal's Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', and Mauritius' Pravind Kumar Jugnauth have accepted the invitation to attend the event. Seychelles' Vice President Ahmed Afif will also be attending the ceremony.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge Saturday said the Lok Sabha poll mandate is a "decisive rejection" of the politics of divisiveness and hate, and stressed that the INDIA bloc must continue functioning cohesively both inside and outside Parliament. In his opening remarks at the Congress Working Committee meeting here, Kharge also asserted that while celebrating its "revival", the party should pause a little as it did not perform to its abilities and expectations in some states. "Further, we could not repeat our performance in states where we had previously done well in Vidhan Sabha elections and formed the government," he said. Separate discussions on each such state will be held soon, he said.

The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha is likely to begin around June 15, sources said Friday. The first session will commence in the third week of June with the oath-taking by the newly elected candidates as members of the House, the sources said, adding the oath-taking is likely to continue for two days, following which a new Speaker will be elected. The next day, the president will address a joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, thus formally inaugurating the session, the sources added.

In view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony, scheduled to take place on June 9 amid presence of several world leaders at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Delhi Police has announced several security measures to facilitate the smooth flow of events during the day. The national capital has been declared a no-fly zone with police banning drones, paragliders, hot air balloons, and other unmanned aerial vehicles and aircraft systems (UAVs and UAS). This order will come under effect for a period of two days – from June 9 to 10.
