New Delhi: As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aims for a third consecutive term in office, Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his intensive campaign for the final phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab's Hoshiarpur on May 30.
After wrapping up his campaign, PM Modi is set to visit the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Tamil Nadu's Kanyakumari. There, he plans to meditate at the Dhyan Mandapam, the same spot where Swami Vivekananda once meditated, from the evening of May 30 to the evening of June 1.
Kanyakumari, located at the southernmost tip of India, is where the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal, and Arabian Sea converge. This visit continues PM Modi's tradition of undertaking spiritual journeys post-campaigns. He visited Kedarnath in 2019 and Shivaji's Pratapgarh in 2014.
The Prime Minister began his election campaign in Kanyakumari on March 16 this year, holding over 200 public events, including rallies and roadshows, across various states in 75 days. Some of the major states where he held most of the roadshows and rallies include Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Maharashtra, and Odisha.
PM Modi also participated in a record number of interviews, highlighting the BJP-led government's achievements and criticising the Opposition on issues such as religious reservations, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, and the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
In an interview, PM Modi predicted significant success for BJP in West Bengal, highlighting the party's past performance and growing support. “In Bengal elections, the TMC party is fighting for existence. You must have seen it in the last assembly elections, we had three seats. The people of Bengal took us from three to 80. We got a lot of support in the Lok Sabha in the last elections. This time, the best-performing state in India is going to be West Bengal. BJP is getting most success in West Bengal,” he said.
PM Modi criticised Congress and the Gandhi family for past amendments to the Constitution. He emphasized his commitment to protecting the Constitution's fundamentals, recalling instances where previous leaders had altered it.
The Prime Minister also reaffirmed the BJP's commitment to 'One Nation, One Election,' mentioning positive and innovative suggestions received by a committee chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind.
"One Nation, One Election, is our commitment. We have talked about this in parliament as well. We have also formed a committee. The committee has also submitted its report. So in terms of One nation, One election, many people have come on-board in the country. Many people have given their suggestions to the committee. The committee received very positive and innovative suggestions and the country will benefit a lot if we are able to implement this report," the PM said.
The seventh and final phase of polling, involving 57 Lok Sabha constituencies across eight states and Union Territories, will conclude on Saturday (June 1). The counting of votes is scheduled for June 4.
