Nepal PM, Sri Lankan Prez to Arrive in Delhi on June 9 to Attend Modi 3.0 Oath Event

PM Modi will be sworn-in on June 9 as the BJP-led NDA crossed the majority mark by winning 293 seats in the 543-member House.

New Delhi: Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who are among guests invited for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony, will arrive on June 9 to attend grand event in national capital. 

Nepal's PM h a telephonic conversation with PM Modi on Wednesday evening, a day after poll results were declared,  during which latter invited him to event, following which PM Dahal confirmed his visit to Delhi.

"During Wednesday evening's telephonic conversation between two leers, invitation was extended to Nepali PM for attendance in swearing-in ceremony. Nepali Prime Minister also confirmed attendance. A formal announcement will be me soon," news agency ANI reported quoting a senior official seeking anonymity. 

This development comes after PM Dahal, commonly known as 'Prachanda', extended his congratulations to PM Modi on Tuesday for "electoral success" of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in recent Lok Sabha elections, marking ir third consecutive term.

'Prachanda' Lauds Enthusiasm Among Indian electorate

Nepal’s PM Dahal, commonly known as 'Prachanda', also lauded display of zeal among Indian electorate and hailed completion of world's largest democratic exercise. 

On same day, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe also accepted PM Modi's invitation to attend his swearing-in ceremony. Sri Lankan President Wickremesinghe also extended wishes to PM Modi on success of BJP-led NDA in elections, over a phone call.

During interaction, PM Modi extended an invitation to President Wickremesinghe to his oath-taking ceremony, which Sri Lankan President accepted. 

Sheikh Hasina to Leave for India Today

Meanwhile, Banglesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will leave Dhaka for India on June 8 to attend swearing-in ceremony of PM Modi. "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will leave Dhaka for Delhi at 11 am on Saturday, June 8 and will return home at noon on June 10 after attending swearing-in ceremony of PM Narendra Modi, due to change in oath-taking ceremony dates," news agency ANI reported quoting Banglesh PM's Speech Writer, M Nazrul Islam.

PM Modi will be sworn-in on June 9 after BJP-led NDA crossed majority mark by winning 293 seats in 543-member House. In 18th Lok Sabha elections, opposition INDI bloc secured 234 seats. Earlier, swearing-in ceremony was scheduled to be held on June 8. counting of votes for 2024 Lok Sabha elections was held on June 4. According to Election Commission of India, BJP won 240 seats, down from 303 in 2019 polls. main opposition Congress, on or hand, registered a strong growth, winning 99 seats against 52 in 2019.
