Muzaffarnagar: Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Shivpal Yadav expressed confidence on Sunday that the INDIA bloc, a coalition of opposition parties, would emerge victorious against the BJP in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Speaking to reporters, Yadav highlighted the unity within the alliance and asserted their collective goal of ousting the ruling BJP.
While addressing questions about seat sharing within the alliance, Yadav mentioned that discussions on the distribution of seats are yet to take place, and there is still time for the decision-making process.
"The INDIA alliance will unitedly accomplish the task of removing BJP from the country," he declared.
Shivpal Yadav's statements precede the December 19 meeting of the opposition bloc in Delhi, where seat sharing and other critical issues will be deliberated upon.
BSP joining I.N.D.I bloc?
Responding to inquiries about the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) potentially joining the alliance, Yadav emphasized that the BSP should distance itself from the BJP and not function as a "B-team" of the ruling party.
Who is the prime ministerial candidate for the I.N.D.I bloc?
When questioned about the prime ministerial candidate for the INDIA bloc, Yadav remarked that the alliance comprises several capable leaders, and there is ample time to address the issue.
During his visit to Muzaffarnagar and Saharanpur to strengthen the Samajwadi Party, Yadav evaded a direct response to SP leaders' expressed dissatisfaction with the Congress in recent assembly polls. He reiterated that the INDIA alliance primarily focuses on the 2024 general elections.
Sources from the Congress reveal that evolving a "core positive agenda," seat sharing, and planning joint rallies are key challenges for the INDIA bloc. The December 19 meeting is expected to emphasize unity under the theme 'Main Nahin, Hum' (We, Not Me) as a counter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The meeting gains significance against the backdrop of the Congress's disappointing performance in recent assembly elections.
