Maharashtra Elections: Limited campaign run for Rahul & Sonia Gandhi?

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi are likely to organise sparse campaign rallies in Maharashtra, ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly Elections.

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi are likely to limit their campaign run in Maharashtra for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly Elections, said sources close to Congress. With only days left for the assembly elections in Haryana and Maharashtra, reports claim that former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi flew to Bangkok on October 5. However, the reason for his Bangkok trip remains unknown. According to the sources from the Congress camp, there are allegations that the Wayanad MP has "abandoned" his responsibilities in the party during the elections. On the other hand, according to reports, Congress President Sonia Gandhi will be campaigning for the rallies in Maharashtra and Harayana. 

Rahul Gandhi likely to visit Maharashtra

According to reports, Rahul Gandhi may visit Maharashtra between October 13 and October 15 and carry out campaign rallies. However, the details of the same are yet to be finalized. Just ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections, speculations are that Rahul Gandhi is in Bangkok for unknown reasons.

Sonia Gandhi to address a joint rally

Sources reveal that current party President Sonia Gandhi will be campaigning for Congress in the Maharashtra and Haryana elections. Reports suggest after the recent All India Congress Committee (AICC) meeting, there were speculations that Sonia Gandhi may address two rallies in Haryana and three to four rallies in Maharashtra. Further, she will be addressing one rally with their ally- NCP Chief Sharad Pawar. However, the schedule for the same is yet to be disclosed. Sonia Gandhi came to power as party President after Rahul Gandhi resigned from his post after 19 months of holding the high seat.

Opposition takes a dig at Congress

Ahead of Maharashtra Assembly elections, the ruling BJP and Shiv Sena have attacked Rahul Gandhi for not turning up at Maharashtra for poll campaigning. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, had earlier targeted the opposition. Reports stated that he had said that the Congress have accepted defeat ahead of the Assembly polls as seen by Gandhi's absence from the poll campaign, “They are already in the defeatist frame of mind. I read in newspapers that Rahul Gandhi is in Bangkok," he had stated.
