Cash seizures by EC during Lok Sabha polls

Ahead of polls, there are plenty of cash seizures by the EC which are usually unaccounted for. During the Lok Sabha elections, the polls in Vellore were cancelled owing to huge amount of cash seizure by EC officials. The election was subsequently held on August 5 and the counting of votes happened on August 9.

EC seizes cash in Maharashtra 

There have been several instances of cash being seized in Maharashtra by EC. The poll officials seized Rs 12.48 lakh from a car in Ulhasnagar in Maharashtra's Thane district late Tuesday night, said an official. The model code of conduct is in force across the state for the October 21 Assembly polls. "The car's occupant could not give a satisfactory answer about the antecedents of the cash. It has been seized and kept at MFC police station in Kalyan," he said.

Cash worth Rs 96 lakh was seized in two separate cases in Nagpur on Monday ahead of the October 21 polling in Maharashtra, officials said. The seizures were made from two cars by joint Static and Surveillance Teams (SSTs) of the Nagpur police and Election Commission near the railway station here and Pachpaoli over-bridge, they said. In the first case, SST seized Rs 71 lakh in cash from a Swift Dzire car when it was passing through the Pachpaoli over-bridge at 6 pm, an official said. In the second case, Rs 25 lakh was seized from a Datsun Go car by SST near Nagpur railway station at 6.30 pm.
