Opinion Poll 2019: Big numbers from Maharashtra & Haryana

The country is back on election fervour as two states- Maharashtra and Haryana are set to go to polls for the assembly elections. The 90-member Haryana Assembly and 288-member Maharashtra Assembly elections would be held on October 21 and the counting procedure would be held on October 24. Both national parties, BJP, and Congress are the two crucial opponents in both the poll-bound states.

Maharashtra

The tenure of the current Maharashtra Assembly elected in 2014, will end on November 9. After allying together in the Lok Sabha elections, the saffron coalition of BJP and Shiv Sena will contest the elections against the Congress-NCP alliance in the state.

The BJP will contest on 150 seats, leaving 124 seats for their alliance partner Shiv Sena. Meanwhile, the Congress-NCP alliance will contest on 125 seats each, leaving 38 seats for their smaller allies. In this election, the grandson of Shiv Sena patron Bal Thackeray, Aaditya Thackeray will be contesting from the Worli seat.

Haryana

In Haryana, Congress and BJP will contest against each other. In a setback for the Congress party ahead of assembly polls in Haryana, its former state chief Ashok Tanwar resigned from the party on Saturday. Even as the Congress party named its former Haryana chief as a star campaigner for the upcoming assembly polls, he resigned saying the Congress party is going through an 'existential crisis' because of the 'internal contradictions' in the party.

Ahead of Haryana assembly elections on October 21, BJP has released its manifesto for the state on Sunday. The manifesto is titled 'Mhare Sapne Ka Haryana' or 'My dreams of Haryana'. The party has promised an increase in farmer's income and zero tolerance to corruption.
