Jammu: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the election campaign for Jammu and Kashmir by addressing a mega rally in Doda district on Saturday. Launching a blistering attack on other political parties that have ruled the disputed region before, Prime Minister Modi said that once elected to power, his govt will change the fate of the union territory whose "youth have been suffering with terrorism" as the parties they trusted only “promoted pariwarwad” and "misled" the people of Jammu and Kashmir. PM Modi was addressing the election rally in the Jammu region in support of BJP candidates.
Highlighting a change in the UT after the BJP govt came to power, the PM said terrorism is taking its last breath in Jammu and Kashmir where his government projected a new leadership to counter dynastic politics which has "destroyed this beautiful region”.
PM Modi also asserted that it is his govt's "resolve to provide better education and better treatment to the poorest of the poor families." He also emphasised on govt's plan to boost rail connectivity from the UT to the national capital.

This was the first visit by a prime minister to Doda district in the last 42 years. This was the first election rally by the Prime Minister ahead of the first phase of Assembly polls scheduled on September 18.
BJP to Contest 43 Seats
BJP is fighting for all 43 assembly seats in the Jammu division. In the last J&K Assembly, BJP had 25 MLAs. Voting in the J&K elections has been planned in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1 while the counting of votes will take place on October 8. This will mark the first Assembly election in J&K in last 10 years, and the first since the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A.
