Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday, October 24, said it is clear from election results that the people of Haryana have opted for change. As per the recent trends, Congress is set to become the second-largest party in Haryana but Siddaramaiah said the grand old party may form a coalition government with the help of other parties.
Siddaramaiah attacks BJP
In a series of tweets, the former Karnataka CM launched a frontal attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of not speaking about their government’s achievement. Siddaramaiah said the BJP fought the elections only on emotional issues like Kashmir and Pakistan. “People have rejected them”, wrote Siddaramaiah.
Admits 'little' setback in Haryana
The senior Congress leader opined the BJP has faced a setback in both states. “In Maharashtra, the seats won have come down from 122 to close to 100. In Haryana, it is down from 47 to 41”, tweeted Siddaramaiah. He derided the BJP over their failure to gain enough seats in Haryana even after rallies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi across the State; suggesting that this was an indication of the party's failure. Siddaramaiah was also content that his party won in two constituencies where he had campaigned.
BJP set to become single-largest party
According to the official Election Commission data, the BJP has won 25 seats and leading in 15 constituencies in Haryana while Congress has won 19 seats and leading on 12 seats. The Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), led by Dushyant Chautala, made a significant debut impact bagging 10 seats, and is touted as the "kingmaker" after the final results are declared. Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda, after winning from Garhi Sample Kiloi constituency, urged all parties including JJP, INLD and BSP to come together to oust the BJP.
