2024 has seen its fair share of box office failures while only a few have succeeded in making an impact. Overall, the year belonged to average grossers and some huge hits, with Kalki 2898 AD, Devara, HanuMan, GOAT, Amaran, Stree 2, Fighter, Shaitaan, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Singham Again, Aavesham, Manjummel Boys, Premalu and The Goat Life making the most contributions to the gross collections at the box office this year.
What's the breakup of Bollywood, Tollywood, Kollywood and Mollywood at the 2024 box office?
According to Sacnilk, so far 195 movies released in Hindi and minted ₹3109.14 crore. Tollywood films did a business of ₹1580.66 crore from its 277 releases and Tamil films (204 so far) have grossed ₹1351.35 crore. It is evident that Bollywood has the maximum share of the business with the least number of releases. Telugu and Tamil cinema follow, but their collections are less than half of Hindi movies. Now, all eyes will be on the upcoming releases and whether or not the milestone of ₹10,000 crore can be reached this year.
What are the big releases lined up for this year?
Before 2024 concludes, three major releases can be expected to add to the box office collection. Suriya's Kanguva, Allu Arjun 's Pushpa 2 and Varun Dhawan starrer Baby John are expected to mint good numbers. Pushpa 2 alone is expected to gross ₹1000 crore at the worldwide box office, while Kanguva and Baby John might do good business, given the buzz surrounding them is decent. Time will tell if they turn out to be success stories or not.
