29-kilogram alligator snapping turtle finds a new home in Virginia Zoo
A ‘captive-bred’ alligator snapping turtle was recently found in a northern Virginia suburb after police received calls about a turtle crossing road repeatedly.

A 29-kilogram ‘captive-bred’ alligator snapping turtle was recently found in a rrn Virginia suburb. Fairfax County Police Department on June 16, in a Facebook post, informed that y received several calls about a large turtle that was crossing ro repeatedly in a residential area of Alexandria. On reaching location, police department was surprised to find huge alligator snapping turtle which is t native to area.
In Facebook post, police department wrote, “Recently, our Animal Protection Police (APP) received a call about a large turtle that was crossing ro repeatedly in a residential area of Alexandria. Much to ir surprise, it was a 65 lb alligator snapping turtle! Alligator snapping turtles are t native to our area and it's believed this was a captive-bred turtle that was released into wild”.

While turtle was a surprise for residents as well as police department, cops also informed that animal control officers first took huge turtle to an animal shelter and n state Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. Furrmore, turtle also found a new home in Virginia Zoo in rfolk.

While sharing pictures of turtle, police department said, “ turtle was safely captured by APP and transported temporarily to Fairfax County Animal Shelter. county’s Wildlife Manment Specialist arranged transfer of turtle to Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF). turtle has w found a new home at Virginia Zoo in rfolk!”

Netizens thank cops for rescue
While speaking to an international media outlet, Department of Game and Inland Fisheries said that turtle is a juvenile and could eventually grow as big as 90 kilograms. Meanwhile, social media post by police department has been making rounds on internet. While some netizens thanked department for rescuing turtle, ors were happy that turtle found a new home. A user wrote, "Thank you for protecting this precious member of our community”. Ar user ded, “I’m gl turtle has a new home!”
