Andhra Pradesh: Sloth bear spotted climbing tree in Onkuluru village
Sloth bears, a species native to the Indian subcontinent are suffering from habitat loss and are listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List.

A sloth bear was spotted climbing a tree near Onkuluru vill in Srikakulam district of Andhra Presh. bear reportedly came out of forest near vill, which is a usual occurrence, according to forest official Sandeep Krupakar Gundala. According to reports, sloth bears are attracted by casuarina plantation in area that causes problems to villrs, who lay traps to catch m. Villrs often capture sloth bears and hand m over to forest department because of mammal's growing menace in area.

In pictures shared by news ncy ANI, a sloth bear can be seen climbing up a tree for what appears to be casuarina fruit, which is found in wetlands, sandy shores, pinelands, etc. picture was shared in wee hours of July 8 and was reportedly taken a day before, meaning that incident took place on July 7. Earlier last month, a sloth bear was trapped in a c set up by locals in Erramukkam vill, in Sompeta Mandal of Srikakulam district, Andhra Presh. trapped bear was later handed over to officials of forest department. locals informed forest department about bear getting trapped, an official from forest department told ANI over phone. locals were suffering from menace of bear and hence y set up a trap to catch it, said forest official.
