Astroworld Festival: 8 dead, hundreds hurt in crowd surge at Travis Scott concert

Eight people died and many were injured amid chaotic scenes at Astroworld Festival in Texas on Friday. incident took place when rapper Travis Scott was performing. news was confirmed by fire authorities. 

As per reports, accident took place when a crowd rushed towards front of st. Due to compression of crowd, some fell unconscious and many were in cardiac arrest. Some people have been hospitalised following incident.

Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña, as per a report on AP, told a news conference that compression near front of st led to panic, causing trdy.  panic is said to have started around  9:15 PM when garing near st happened.

He n said that a “mass casualty incident” took place at 9:38 PM. Peña said that cause of death about deceased was determined yet, but it will be kwn after a medical examination.

 “ crowd began to compress towards front of st, and that caused some panic, and it started causing some injuries,” fire chief said. “People began to fall out, become unconscious, and it created ditional panic.”

He ded that 17 people were taken to hospital in an ambulance, out of which 11 were in cardiac arrest. 

As per reports, 300 persons were given medical treatment at a medical facility at venue. Some were seen performing CPR on unconscious people at venue, in videos that surfaced on social media.

concert was stopped soon after trdy. Around 50,000 people were a part of sold-out concert held at NRG Park, fire chief said.

As news of crowd rush emerged, as per a report on New York Post, emergency responders were called in. Among hospitalised was a 10-year-old. police were also working towards finding out identities of deceased, and even those who h loved ones, who attended concert, missing were asked to go to Wyndham Hotel.  

Organizers of festival, LiveNation, will provide foot from event to investigators and Travis Scott was co-operating with law-enforcement, Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said.
