12th Fail: Real-life IFS officer moved by Vikrant Massey’s film, calls it 'real depiction'
12th Fail is based on Anurag Pathak's novel, the film is about a man who failed his 12th standard exam but managed to clear the UPSC through mere hard work.

12th Fail hit the big screens on October 27 and made its OTT debut on December 29. The Vikrant Massey starrer gained critical and commercial success at the box office and has been received well on OTT also. Based on Anurag Pathak's novel, the film is about a man who failed his 12th standard exam but managed to clear the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) through sheer hard work. Scenes in the film have resonated with real-life Indian Forest Services (IFS) Parveen Kaswan who took to his social media account to share a clip from the film and share his anecdote.
Parveen Kaswan praised 12th Fail for showing an apt dpeiction
Helmed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, 12th Fail is headlined by Vikrant Massey who plays the role of Manoj Kumar Sharma, a real-life IPS officer. One particularly poignant scene features Massey's character walking into the UPSC building for his interview; Parveen Kaswan, an IFS officer, found this moment to be extremely real. Kaswan posted a scene from the movie on his social media account. He recalled going through the anxiety and suspense of the UPSC interview process three times before being selected.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, Parveen Kaswan wrote, “What a nostalgic feeling. And such a real depiction of what happens in the UPSC building during the interview. Been there three times like this !!” His emotions were mirrored by several other officers, who took to the comment section to share their feelings from the interview. The real-life UPSC officials shared how the film’s description of the process was accurate.
Vikrant Massey shares he could not stop weeping while shooting for 12th Fail
In a recent interview with ANI, Vikrant Massey spoke about his character in 12th Fail. The actor shared that the role has stayed with him because he was affected by the film too much. He recalled, “With Manoj Kumar Sharma, there were moments when Vinod sir would call a cut and I would continue weeping even after the cut is called because I just could not control myself.” 12th Fail has been received positively on OTT and gas become one of the most talked about films of 2023.
