Aamir Khan Rejected Shoojit Sircar's Madras Cafe Because Film's Plot Addressed A 'Sensitive' Subject

John Abraham was not the first choice for Madras Cafe?
Madras Cafe stands out in the filmography involved, be it filmmaker Shoojit Sircar, actress Nargis Fakhri or actor John Abraham who was also brave enough to produce a politically charged like this. In Unfiltered by Samdish, Shoojit Sircar had revealed that in his directorial Madras Cafe, the film was initially titled as Jaffna. He said that John Abraham was not the first choice but Aamir Khan. But, later Aamir Khan denied the offer seeing the sensitivity of the issue which was later taken up by John Abraham.

For the unversed, Madras Cafe is an Indian political action thriller film. According to a report in Sacnilk, Madras Cafe’s net collection in India is ₹42.47 crore and the worldwide collection is ₹66.71 crore. Reports suggest that the film was made on a budget of ₹34 crore.
Directed by Shoojit Sircar, the film revolves around Vikram, an Indian intelligence agent who visits Sri Lanka on a secret mission, finds himself embroiled in a civil war and a conspiracy to kill the former prime minister of India. Madras Cafe tells stars John Abraham, Nargis Fakhri, Raashi Khanna, Siddhartha Basu, Ajay Rathnam, Prakash Belawadi, Piyush Pandey and Dibang among others.

What’s next for Shoojit Sircar?
Shoojit Sircar will be back with film I Want to Talk, which features Abhishek Bachchan in lead roles. The project marks Abhishek and Shoojit’s first film together, as the latter has shared a long-spanning professional equation with the former’s father Amitabh Bachchan .
Directed by Shoojit Sircar, I Want To Talk promises to strike a balance between lighthearted moments and deep emotional introspection, offering a profound commentary on life, relationships and redemption. I Want To Talk is produced by Rising Sun and Kino Works. The screenplay is penned by Ritesh Shah. The film is set to release in theatres on November 22, 2024.
