Several Bollywood actors, including Farhan Akhtar, Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Richa Chha, Shrdha Kapoor, Dia Mirza and Swara Bhasker, on Saturday condemned felling of trees in Aarey Colony, being carried out to make way for a Metro carshed. Hours after Bombay High Court on Friday dismissed four petitions by NGOs against felling of over 2,600 trees, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) swung into action and started hacking trees for project.

Among celebrities, Twinkle Khanna too raised her concerns towards tree-felling in Mumbai's 'green lung' area Aarey. author retweeted a tweet of Karan Johar to which a user named Sahil criticised her lifestyle and said: Hey Twinkle, Karan stop using your SUVs and start using local trains before preaching about environment... okay?". For those unaware, Twinkle's husband Akshay Kumar recently put a video when he took metro ride. He said: “I think this is only transportation which is at an elevation. And this remains unaffected how much ever water gets collected due to rains. It keeps moving ahe."

Meanwhile, in a series of tweets, Mirza said that this "massacre" needs to be stopped. "400 trees have been cut in de of night. As citizens sang and joined hands in unity pleing to STOP this massacre. Can't you see y are UNITED by love!?! Love for nature. Love for our children and our future. #Aarey #ClimateAction #Actw #ChangeIsComing," she said.

In ar tweet, actor said that re is supposed to be a 15-day waiting period after permission is granted and tice has been uploed on official website. Sharing a video of felling of trees on Twitter, actor Richa Chda wrote, "If you're a parent and t seriously angered about this shy tree felling in night, lemme kw how you feel about looking your kids in ir eyes."

In ar tweet, Chda expressed heranger saying, "All this for a carshed - which is basically like a parking lot for Metro. Stealing oxygen from lungs of citizens. "And it's begun! #AareyForest #AareyColony being destroyed," Swara said. Actor Urmila Matondkar, who h unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha election as a Congress candidate from Mumbai rth before quitting party last month, said what was happening at Aarey was "truly incomprehensible".
