The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the highest honour that can be awarded in Indian cinema. It is presented annually by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The Award is given to a personality for their outstanding performance and contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema. Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2017 - Vinod Khanna
Vinod Khanna, who passed away in April 2017, was honoured posthumously with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award at the 65th National Film Awards in Delhi. Vinod Khanna is the 49th recipient of the Award. Vinod Khanna was well-known for his charming style and sophisticated demeanour. He is recognised for his contribution to Hindi cinema across four decades. He played significant roles in popular films like Amar Akbar Anthony, Qurbani, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Mere Apne, Hera Pheri and many more. In his later years, he also appeared in the movies like Wanted, Dabangg and Dilwale.

Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2015 - Manoj Kumar
Veteran director and film actor, Manoj Kumar was felicitated by the Dadasaheb Phalke Award at the 63rd National Film Award by the then President Pranab Mukherjee. He was the 47th recipient of the prestigious Award. He is remembered for his movies like Himalaya Ki God Mein, Woh Kaun Thi?, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, Patthar Ke Sanam, Neel Kamal, Kranti and many more. Manoj Kumar will always stay in the hearts of the people for acting and directing movies with patriotic themes. He was also nicknamed as Bharat Kumar because of the patriotic films he was known for.

Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2013 - Gulzar
The 45th Dadasaheb Phalke Award was given to the veteran director and film lyricist Gulzar. He was honoured by this Award for his outstanding contribution to the development and growth of Indian cinema. He has created a multitude of songs in his renowned career and is also associated with many films as a dialogue writer and scriptwriter. Mere Apne, Koshish, Meera, Maachis, Angoor, Aandhi are his directorial. He has also received the Grammy Award for his song Jai Ho of the movie Slumdog Millionaire.

Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2012 - Pran
Bollywood veteran actor Pran Sikand received the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award in the year 2012. Pran was a Hindi cinema villain loved by his fans. Pran has worked in blockbuster movies like Don and Zanjeer and was paid higher than the male lead of the film for his role. He has played both supporting characters and evil characters on screen. Lata Mangeshkar is an Indian music director and playback singer. The Government of India felicitated her with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in the year 1989.
