Tamil superstar Vikram and Bollywood actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have confirmed being a part of director Mani Ratnam’s upcoming movie. This dynamic pair has worked together before in Mani Ratnam’s 'Ravana' (2010). Reportedly, this yet-to-be-titled movie is a historical drama, which is inspired by ‘Ponniyin Selvan’, a Tamil novel by the writer Kalki Krishnamoorthy. This novel is believed to be one of the finest pieces of Tamil literature. The movie is said to revolve around the story of Arulmozhivarman, who was a king of Chola dynasty.
What the lead actors had to say about the movie?
Vikram confirmed being a part of the movie in a press conference where he was promoting his upcoming movie Kadara Kondan. He was thrilled about working with Mani Ratnam and said that it is an entirely different experience to work with him. Meanwhile Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in an interview when asked about the possibility of her being a part of Mani Ratnam’s movie didn't deny the possibility. Aishwarya said, "What I will commit to is, even though Mani hasn't formally announced it himself, (that) I'm working with him. The word is out so I'm committing to that fact. And I don't have to agree. I'll always be more than thrilled, excited, overwhelmed, humbled, and just happy to work with my guru. So, ya that's happening. Back to school." As per reports which are yet to have an official confirmation, Vikram will be playing the role of Aditya Karikalan, a Chola Prince from the tenth century and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will play the part of Nandhini, one of the key antagonists of the story.
What to expect from the film?
The Vikram and Aishwarya Rai starrer is expected to have more than 50 characters, which the makers hope will make it a grand cinematic experience for the audience. As per reports, ace musician AR Rahman has also been roped in by Ratnam for the film. This epic historical drama is apparently already in the pre-production stage. This dream project of Mani Ratnam was set to release in 2012 but reportedly came to a halt due to budget trouble. Reports state that shooting for the film will begin later this year.
