Aishwarya Rai speaks about Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan shares the story behind why she signed the Disney film Maleficent: Mistress of Evil in the trailer launch. Read on to know the details.

Disney's recent release Maleficent: Mistress of Evil hit the theatres on October 18, 2019. Though the film has competition with Saif Ali Khan starrer Laal Kaptaan in India, it managed to collect around ₹75 crores at the Indian box-office on its first weekend. The audience and fans were intrigued ever since the release of Hindi teaser confirmed Aishwarya Rai's voice-over for Angelina Jolie's character in the film.

A few days before the release, during the trailer launch of the film, Aish revealed in a media-interaction about what excited her to lend her voice for a negative character. While explaining she stated that she was familiar with the story of Sleeping Beauty and the character of Maleficent as a kid and as a mother. The Guru actor mentioned that during CAN she saw the promotions of Maleficent in 2014. She said that the portrayal of Maleficent's perspective interests her the most about the film. The 45-year-old actor also expressed that though Angelina Jolie is a mother of six, her choice of portraying the Evil Queen on-screen impressed her.

The actress also shared the bizarre story behind choosing the film. While sharing the details she said that she and her daughter Aaradhya watched the film Maleficent on Monday evening, and on Wednesday she received an e-mail inquiring about Maleficent. She also confessed to Bikram Duggal, who is the head of Disney India, that she took that as a sign and accepted the offer. Aishwarya also pointed out how they managed their working schedules to make this project happen.

Aishwarya was last seen in Anil Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao starrer Fanney Khan. On the work front, she will next be starring in Ponniyin Selvan and Jasmine - Story of A Leased Womb. However, the release dates of both movies have not been officially announced yet. According to the reports of news portals, Aishwarya will also star in the remake of the 1964 classic Woh Kaun Thi?, which will be produced by KriArj Entertainment.
