Anil Kapoor recalls early days of his career, says his father didn't help him

Anil Kapoor revealed that his father, Surinder Kapoor, had told him straight out that there was nothing he could do to further his career.

Anil Kapoor is one the most successful actors of his time. The 66-year-old star's amazing acting prowess and adaptability have been winning over fans for the past 40 years of his career. Even though he was the son of a well-known director, Anil never had it easy, He had to work hard to climb the ladder to the peak of success that he is currently enjoying. Talking about it, the Fighter actor recalled how not getting good projects early in his career made him a bitter person.

Anil spoke warmly about his late father Surinder Kapoor in a Midday interview. In his description, the actor stressed that his father was not the traditional pushy, filmy, or aggressive figure often associated with the profession, instead characterizing him as an honest, good, and introverted person.

Anil revealed that his father, who was a film producer, had told him straight out that there was nothing he could do to further his career. Interestingly, the actor had never expected to be helped in this way. But after learning this, the actor decided to follow his gut and accepted that it was time to enter the business on his own and take on its obstacles.

“He very clearly told me that ‘I cannot do anything for you’ and I never expected him to do anything for me. So from the day, I felt instinctive, I said, ‘It’s time for me to get out, go to the battlefield, and fight it out,” said Anil. 

Anil Kapoor opens up on the early days of his career

Anil went on to discuss his experience breaking through in the movie business on his own, without any official support or direction. The actor talked about how he was tired and worn out from not being able to get any good roles. He recalled sitting with his friends and how they would always end up having rum.

Anil added, “It was exhausting, it was tiring, frustrating. I looked worse, I felt worse. I used to sit with my friends and have Rum. I was a bitter person. I channelled it in my work. Awaragi, Mashaal. You see that anger, it was that anger and bitterness. Awaragi was much later but Mashaal, yes.”
