Ayushmann Khurrana's Bala aims to break societal stigma on baldness

Ayushmann Khurrana is on a roll in 2019. The Vicky Donor actor won the National Film Award for Best Actor for his 2018 film, Andhadhun. His two releases for 2019, Article 15 and Dream Girl, won critical praise and commercial success. Dream Girl emerged as one of 2019's biggest hits and has grossed close to Rs. 136 crore so far. The actor is looking forward to his next release, Bala.

Bala stars Ayushmann Khurrana playing a bald character. The film follows his romantic journey with two characters, played by actors Bhumi Pednekar and Yami Gautam respectively. The film is directed by Amar Kaushik and produced by Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films. Previously, the director-producer collaborated on 2018's film, Stree, which starred Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead. Bala also stars Javed Jaffrey, Saurabh Shukla and Seem Pahwa in supporting roles.

Bala will clash with Pagalpanti at the box-office

Just like his previous films, Bala aims to tackle a social issue. The issue in this film is concerning premature baldness in men. Ayushmann appears to have developed a knack for doing films that revolve around quirky subjects. His debut film, 2012's Vicky Donor, tackled the taboo issue of sperm donation. In 2017, his film Shubh Mangal Savdhaan dealt with erectile dysfunction. In Article 15, Ayushmann played the role of a police officer who is tasked with dealing with caste inequalities in a rural town in central India. Naturally, filmgoers are curious about his role in upcoming Bala.

Expectations are high for Bala. Recently, the teaser of the film was unveiled on social media. In the teaser, Ayushmann is spotted with a bald look, crooning to Shah Rukh Khan's Koi Na Koi Chahiye from the 1992 film, Deewana. Ayushmann is riding a bike in the teaser, and when the winds blows his cap away, he turns sad and begins crooning Rajesh Khanna's Rehne Do Chhodo from the 1971 film Kati Patang.
