Bollywood News: Bobby Deol has often spoken about the setback in his career in the early 2000s. The actor bounced back in the film industry with his portrayal as Abrar Haque in Animal. He recently revealed his fear of being dropped from the film before he was signed for Ranbir Kapoor starrer.

Bobby Deol expresses his insecurities: Waited for 1.5 years to begin shooting

In an interview with Humans of Bombay, the Gupt actor recalled how Animal director Sandeep Reddy Vanga approached him for the role. He said, “I got a message from him. He introduced himself and told me he wanted to meet me for a film. I thought, is it really him? I called and arranged the meeting."

He further said, “I want to cast you because I love this expression of yours. I wanted to do something out of my comfort zone. When Sandeep told me that my character would be mute, I thought, ‘But my voice is my strength,’ yet I still decided to go for it.”

After signing for Animal, Bobby Deol opened up about his insecurities during the long wait to start filming. “I waited 1.5 years to shoot the film. The film is 3.5 years long, so they were shooting with Ranbir for a long time and during that period, I kept thinking, “Are they going to change their mind? Will they suddenly say they don’t need me?"

“Those thoughts crossed my mind, but Sandeep Reddy is a sweetheart. I learned sign language for the role. It became a huge success—although I never imagined it would become a cult hit, I had a gut feeling about it," he added.

Why Bobby Deol did not celebrate the success of Animal?

When asked about the celebration of Animal’s success with his family, Bobby shared, “My brother Sunny kept saying we should celebrate, but my mother-in-law passed away at that time. 

He further said, “I believe it was her blessings that brought me this kind of love. She was special to me, and I lost her three months before the film came out. So, there was a lot going on.”

Bobby Deol’s upcoming projects

The actor, who bowled away his fans with his performance in Animal, is awaiting for the release of his next highly anticipated Tamil film Kanguva. Directed by Siva, the film stars Suriya and  Disha Patani  . This film will also mark the debut of Bobby Deol in the Tamil industry.

The actor will also be seen in Telugu-language period action adventure film Hari Sara Veera Mallu: Part 1- Sword vs Spirit. Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, the film will star Pawan Kalyan, Anupam Kher and Vikramjeet Virk among others. 

Bobby Deol also has another film NBK 109 in the pipeline. The Telugu action drama directed by Bobby Kolli, will feature Nandamuri Balakrishna.
