Indian cinema has widely advanced in years. From romantic fictitious movies to real love stories, Bollywood has seen a rapid change. The on-screen romance with an added flavour of comedy was the newly introduced genre in the early 2000s. These movies had a more realistic approach and they were more content-driven as compared to the movies in the early ’90s. Here are some classic Bollywood rom-coms.
Jab We Met (2007)
Considered as one of the best Bollywood rom-coms, Jab We met released on October 26, 2007. The movie features Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan in lead roles. It is the story of a depressed wealthy businessman who finds his life changing after he meets a spunky and a carefree young woman. Kareena Kapoor Khan as Geet was widely appreciated for her performance and the chemistry between the duo was known to be loved by both audience and critics.
Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na (2008)
This directorial by Abbas Tyrewala, Jaane Tu …Ya Jaane Na, released on July 4, 2008. It is the story about two best friends who convince others that they aren’t in love and search partners for each other. However, in the end, they realise how madly they are in love with each other and they finally have a happy ending. The movie is full of romance, humour, friendships and a beautiful plot of the story.
Yeh Jawaani hai Deewani ( 2013)
One of the classic rom-coms of Bollywood, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is directorial by Ayan Mukerji. The movie released on May 31, 2013. From quirky dialogues to an interesting story, this movie was widely loved and appreciated by both critics and the audience. The movie is all about love and friendship. It is a story of four friends who go on a trekking trip and how the trip changes everything between them. Years later, they meet and all four of them have a happy ending in their lives.
Hum Tum (2004)
Hum Tum released on May 28, 2004. It is directed by Kunal Kohli starring Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji in lead roles. The movie is about a novel that looks at the eternal battle of the sexes and the trials and tribulations of Karan and Rhea and their attempts to understand each other.
Band Baaja Baaraat (2010)
The debut movie of Ranveer Singh starring him in lead role opposite Anushka Sharma, Band Baaja Baaraat released on December 10, 2010. The movie revolves around Shruti and Bittoo who become partners to start a company of their own. It is a directorial by Maneesh Sharma. The movie was a blockbuster hit and the duo was appreciated for their on-screen chemistry.
