Bollywood films that are remakes of Bengali movies
Bollywood filmmakers have been inspired by other Indian film industries like the Bengali film industry. Here are some Hindi remakes of Bengali films.

It is said that Bengal is proud to have the tag of ‘Cultural Capital of India’. The homeland of the legend who wrote our National Anthem, Rabindranath Tagore, Bengal has also given us one of the most celebrated literates. The state has the legacy of producing superb literature. In the world of entertainment, Bengal has also been the birthplace of renowned filmmakers like Satyajit Ray and Rithvik Ghatak. It is noted that Bollywood filmmakers have often taken inspiration from Bengali movies and remade them. Back from 1936, when the Bengali movie Dena Paona (that originally released in 1931) was remade into Pujarin. Here are some Bollywood remakes of Bengali films you may not know.
Begum Jaan (2017)
Begum Jaan was inspired from the 2015 Bengali movie, Rajkahini. The Bengali filmmaker, Srijit Mukherjee, directed both the films. Begum Jaan was a women-centric film starring Vidya Balan in one of the most bold and strong characters. The story of the film was about eleven prostitutes who refuse to part ways with their brothel and each other during the partition between India and Pakistan.

Gangs Of Ghosts (2014)
Gangs Of Ghosts was the Hindi remake of Bengali film, Bhooter Bhobishyat. It is said that as Bhooter Bhobishyat was a super hit, it inspired the Bollywood remake. However, the Hindi remake tanked badly at the box office. Gangs Of Ghosts was a story about a group of ghosts who have lost their shelter due to urbanization. It starred Sharman Joshi and Mahi Gill in lead roles. The story started with a struggling wannabe director who somehow crossed paths with a stranger.

Amar Prem (1972)
The 1972 film was basically a remake of a Bengali film named Nishi Padma. The Bengali version was an award-winning film starring Uttam Kumar. On the other hand, Amar Prem was a passionate romantic-drama starring Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore. Along with the actors and the story, the Hindi version is noted for its music and thought-provoking songs, which are one of the most memorable highlights of this classic.
