Old is gold, and if you do it right, it could go platinum too! Although Karan Johar’s Agneepath (2012) and Shah Rukh Khan’s Don (2006) has opened the door for many more remakes of old Hindi movies, every remake is not a hit. Ajay Devgn’s Himmatwala (2013) and Jimmy Sheirgill’s Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster (2011) are proof. It has been noticed for years that film industries thrive for remakes. However, there are quite a number of old Bollywood old remakes that are doing well at the box office.
1. Agneepath
The 2012 film, Agneepath was produced by Hiroo Yash Johar and Karan Johar under their own banner Dharma Productions. It starred Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt, and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles. This 2012 action-drama was the remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s original 1990 film of the same name. It is said that the title was taken from one of Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s poem. In Hrithik Roshan’s Agneepath, he is seen as Vijay Deenanath Chauhan battling against the evil Kancha Cheena. Reportedly, history was repeated as the remake also did excellently at the box office.

2. Don
Shah Rukh Khan’s 2006 Don was the remake of the original Don in 1978. The 1978 movie was the third-highest-grossing Bollywood flick of the year and gained cult status over the years. In 2006, Shah Rukh Khan took on the role of the criminal mastermind and the Don again ruled the box office after 30 years. The popularity of the remake encouraged the makers to again make its sequel in 2011. This 2011 film also received positive reviews from the audience and the critics as well.
