Jagjit Singh: Celebrities reminisce memories of the late Ghazal King

Jagjit Singh was born in Rajasthan to a Punjabi family. His name was Jagmohan Singh at birth. He was fondly known as Ghazal King and King of Ghazals. He was considered to have a golden voice and left a huge impression with work in the field of music. He sang in many languages, including Hindi, Gujarati, Bengali, Punjabi, Urdu, Sindhi and Nepali languages. Jagjit Singh was conferred with India’s third-highest civilian award, the Padma Bhushan in 2003. He passed away on October 11, 2019.

Bollywood mourns his loss

Last week was the death anniversary of the talented artist. Director Mahesh Bhatt took to his Twitter to play his tribute to the late Ghazal King. Jagjit Singh. The legendary artist passed away eight years ago and at the age of 70-years-old. Mahesh Bhatt, on his social media, spoke about Jagjit Singh and posted a few emotional words for him. Netizens quickly commented on Bhatt’s post saying that they miss him too, while many called Jagjit Singh a man with a golden voice.

Apart from Bhatt, many Bollywood personalities took to Twitter to pay their respects to the late Ghazal King. Music director Shekhar Ravji said that Jagjit Singh was his mentor, whom he remembers fondly. Shekhar also went on to say that Singh’s voice has always guided him and will always continue to do so. Movie actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha penned down a few heartfelt lines for his ‘very, very close friend’ Jagjit Singh. He also said that he remembers the Ghazal legend fondly and that his melodious voice still soothes Shatrugan Sinha’s soul.

Jagjit Singh often collaborated with singer Anup Jalota. Anup also took to Twitter to pay his tribute. He penned down an emotional ode and wrote about how he misses his friend dearly. He also requested Jagjit Singh to come back and said that the harmonium is silent without him. Netizens agreed to the emotional words of the singer, as well.
