Censor Board denies nod to Malayalam movie Varthamanam set in backdrop of Jan JNU protest

Censor Board of Film Certification's regional office has denied permission to Malayalam movie, which is set in the background of the JNU agitation, as per PTI

Malayalam film "Varthamanam", which is set in backdrop of students' agitation held in Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi early this year has been denied permission by Censor Board of Film Certification's (CBFC) regional office. Directed by ted filmmaker Sidhartha Siva with award-winning actress Parvathy Thiruvoth in le role, Malayalam movie revolves around journey of a Keralite woman who goes to JNU campus from home state for her research studies.

Censor Board denies d to Malayalam movie based on JNU agitation

Aryan Shoukath, film's producer-script-writer, said that CBFC officials have t pointed out any specific reason for denying certification. He also said movie would be submitted to revising committee of Censor Board in Mumbai for certification this week itself. While speaking to news ncy PTI, Shoukath who is also a Congress leer said, "We still do t kw why move is denied certification." movie will t be sent for any awards this time if we do t get Censor Board clearance before December 31, he ded.

Suspecting that d for screening movie was denied on political grounds citing a recent tweet of a censor board member, who is also state vice president of SC Morcha of BJP, Shoukath said, "ways Censor Board has several political appointees who have basic kwledge of cinema. We are still living in India which is a democratic, secular and socialist country. It is based on clan and race of script-writer that a film is given a d for screening? undeclared emergency situation in cultural sector cant be accepted."

PTI informed that when two censor board members who are from film industry, strongly supported movie and wanted to give it a d for screening, two ors, who are political minees, objected to it. When contacted, censor board officials here were unavailable for comment, PTI ded.
