Meghna Gulzar’s directorial Chhapaak is an upcoming Bollywood film that chronicles the story of the acid attack survivor- Laxmi Aggrawal. Deepika Pakudone will essay the character of Malti in the film. Bollywood filmmakers have uplifted the story criteria’s by bringing to light these deadly situations that are prevailing in the society. Many innocent personalities have seen harsh days like Laxmi in India. Just like her, these are a few other women who have been through acid attacks and have inspired the nation by their positive revolution in life.
Here are a few acid attack survivors who have been an inspiration to all of us
1. Kavita Baruni:

26-year-old Kavita Baruni who hails from Uttar Pradesh was reportedly attacked by two men in her village in 2012. Two men poured acid on her face, which caused immense facial disfigurement on Kavita’s face. Kavita did not let this incident stop her from pursuing her dreams. Today, she is married to the love of her life Nitesh Varma, who firmly stood by her during her crucial stage of life.
2. Pramodini Roul:

According to reports, Pramodini Roul was 16 years old when an official from an army camp took interest in her in 2014. He sent a proposal to her house. After facing rejection, he dreadfully threw acid on her, leaving 80% of her body with scars and burns. Today, Pramodini, fondly called Rani by her friends and family, has met Saroj Kumar Sahu who helped her live her life again. In 2018, Rani and Saroj’s engagement function photos took over social media, where she was seen all hale, happy and hearty.

3. Aarti Thakur:
Reports state that Aarti, a 25-year-old acid attack survivor, was brutally injured by the son of the landlady of the flat her family had rented. He poured acid on her in 2012. In an interview with a news daily, she shared that she had completely forgotten to how to venture into public and that she stayed indoors for almost two years, recovering from the trauma she had faced. After numerous surgeries, Aarti’s scars reportedly started healing.

Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey's upcoming film Chhapaak
Chhapaak, starring Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey in pivotal roles will share the story of one such brutal event that happened in India. The first poster of Chhapaak has already given a glimpse about Deepika Padukone’s look in the film. The story of the movie revolves around the triumphs of Laxmi and her uncrushable spirit after surviving the acid attack. Chhapaak is slated to release on January 10, 2020.
