Cakes are an unmissable factor during festivals, especially for Christmas and New Year’s. Here are a few ways to add a bit of fun elements to your usual cake.

How to bake a basic cake at home:

  1. Gather all the dry ingredients that you will need: flour, powdered sugar, butter, eggs, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa powder or vanilla essence, depending on your choice and taste preferences.
  2. It is always recommended to preheat your oven before you put your cake in it.
  3. While the oven gets warm, combine all the ingredients.
  4. Now, pour the batter into a greased cake tin.
  5. Bake the cake and let it cool before serving.

How to upgrade the usual vanilla cake this Christmas

1. Victoria Sponge Cake

Add some cream, icing sugar, and vanilla essence in a bowl and whip it until small peaks are formed. Add a few spoons of jam in another bowl and reduce its consistency if needed. Take one layer of the cake and add the whipped cream. Top it with the jam and berries.

2. Pistachio-Lime Cake

Add a few crushed pistachios to your usual vanilla cake batter. After this, add lemon zest and blend all the ingredients. Bake the cake as usual. Prepare the icing by adding lemon juice to icing sugar. Top the cake with this and enjoy.

3. Orange Drizzle Cake

Mix orange juice, lemon juice, and three tablespoons of icing sugar. Pour this mix on the freshly baked cake. Leave it to cool completely. This will also let the cake soak up the juices which will give it a unique, citrus flavour.

4. Passion Fruit Frosting Cake

Add mashed bananas and nuts to your cake batter and bake. To prepare the frosting, beat some butter until soft. Mix the cream cheese with sugar and 2 tablespoons of passion fruit juice. Drizzle the frosting on the cake.

5. Espresso Buttercream Cake

This frosting is especially for coffee lovers. Mix buttercream and few tablespoons of espresso together. You can also add ½ teaspoon of cocoa powder to the frosting. Pipe this on cakes and cupcakes.
