Dadasaheb Phalke Award for Amitabh Bachchan: Rajinikanth, others react

Rajinikanth, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle and others were ecstatic after the announcement of Amitabh Bachchan being honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

One could’ve mistaken to assume that Amitabh Bachchan had already won the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, considering there aren’t too many honours in this country that he has not been bestowed with. However, the announcement from the I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar to honour Big B with the biggest award in Indian cinema, was just another feather in the legend’s glorious career. Some of the biggest names of the country exulted over the honour to be bestowed on Amitabh Bachchan, including Rajinikanth and ex-winners like Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle.

Wishes galore for 'Mahanayak'

Rajinikanth congratulated Amitabh Bachchan by saying that he ‘richly deserved this commendable honour’. 

Lata Mangeshkar was honoured with the award in 1989. The legendary singer congratulated Bachchan and said the announcement had immensely delighted her. She said that the ‘Mahanayak’ (Great actor) receiving the award in honour of the ‘Father of Indian Cinema’ was a historic event.

Asha Bhosle, Dadasaheb Phalke Award winner in 2000, was also a jury member, and conveyed her delight, “As a Dadasaheb Phalke Award Jury Member, I am pleased to congratulate Shri. Amitabh Bachchanji on his getting this Prestigious Award.”

Anil Kapoor tweeted, “There is no mention of Indian cinema without this Legend! He has redefined cinema with every role & deserves every accolade for his innumerable contributions!” 

Anupam Kher shared a throwback picture to convey his wishes.

Karan Johar’s message summed up what Amitabh Bachchan meant to Hindi cinema, “The most inspiring legend of Indian Cinema!!!! He is a bonafide rock star!!! I am honoured and proud to be in the Era of AMITABH BACHCHAN! The prestigious #DadaSahebPhalkeAward to  @SrBachchan." 

 

Like many of us, Amitabh Bachchan is an idol for Sidharth Malhotra, he wrote, “Always looked upto you Sir and you truly deserve this @SrBachchan! Heartiest Congratulations for this prestigious award #DadaSahabPhalkeAwards.” 

Madhur Bhandarkar posted, “Congratulations to the legend @SrBachchan for the prestigious #DadaSahebPhalkeAward. You have entertained, inspired generations with your exhilarating Performances. Wishing you more success and happiness.” 

“No one deserves this more!!!! @SrBachchan Sir, heartiest congratulations!!!! Am thrilled to bits!!! #DadaSahebPhalkeAward -this is an honour for every #AmitabhBachchan Fan including me - Thank you@PrakashJavdekar ji -,” wrote Riteish Deshmukh. 

Actor and MP Kirron Kher also was ecstatic, “Congratulations to Amitji for getting the #DadaSahebPhalkeAwards2019 . Richly deserved . What a legend, with such an illustrious career. And still going strong. More strength to you,@SrBachchan Sir!” Kirron Kher wrote.

Dadasaheb Phalke Award 

The winners of Dadasaheb Phalke Awards in the last two years were Vinod Khanna, Shashi Kapoor while Dev Anand, Gulzar, Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar, Yash Chopra, among others have also been honoured with the honour. Amitabh Bachchan will receive his award on the day of the presentation of the National Film Awards.
