Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh to be on-screen husband-wife in '83

Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh have starred in several major hit films, and also fell in love on the sets of a film they worked in together. The couple has been the lead in movies such as Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, Padmaavat, and Bajirao Mastani. All three movies were directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Kabir Khan’s ’83 will be Ranveer-Deepika’s first project together after they got married in 2018. Ranveer will play former Indian Cricket Team captain Kapil Dev, while Deepika will play his wife, Romi Dev.

Deepika and Ranveer's Last Release

Deepika Padukone’s last release was Padmaavat. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat was one of the highest-grossing films despite getting banned in several parts of the country. On the other hand, Ranveer Singh was last seen in musical drama Gully Boy which was directed by Zoya Akhtar. The movie was a commercial success in India and overseas, and has also been nominated for the Academy Awards 2019.

The Couple as Co-stars

Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh’s on-screen chemistry was sheer magic in Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, an Indian twist to William Shakespeare’s immortal play Romeo and Juliet. The movie showed the two characters, their love, and sacrifice, the family feuds, set in a village of Gujarat. The two later went on to star in Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat. Currently, the couple is all geared up for their upcoming film which shows India’s win at the World Cup in '83. 

As much as fans are keen to watch this real-life Jodi on-screen, Deepika Padukone told a news portal that their personal equations will not interfere with their on-screen equations. She added that when you indulge in a character you cease to exist and live the character.

Romi's role in Kapil Dev's success

In an interview with a news media, Padmaavat actress has revealed that Romi inspires her by the way she conducts herself. She is excited to play the role of Kapil Dev’s wife and admired how she has been his support system through ups and downs. Romi also helped him handle his professional pressure and emotions and stay grounded. She has played a key role in his success. 

Fans await her upcoming film ’83 which will release on April 10, 2020. Deepika Padukone is also working in Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapaak along with Vikrant Massey. Chhapaak is based on the life of Laxmi Agarwal, an acid attack survivor.
