Deepika-Ranveer Relationship Timeline: From being co-stars to dating in secret followed by a fairytale wedding and now on new parents, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone are some of the most followed Bollywood couples. The actors embraced parenthood for the first time on September 8. On their big day, take a look back at their 12-year-long love story that has sustained its fair share of turbulence.

2012: First meeting of Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh

As it is in the case of most Bollywood love stories, Deepika and Ranveer first met as co-stars. The actors featured together in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial Goliyon ki Rasleela: Ramleela (2013), a retelling of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Sparks flew as soon as they met each other on the first day of the film set.

Recalling his first encounter with Deepika, the Gully Boy revealed in a talk show, “There was a famous or infamous reading for the movie at Mr Bhansali’s house in Versova. I was supposed to meet him before Deepika’s arrival. So I was sitting on the table and the door was on my left. He has these heavy doors and he lives by the seaside.” He added “So, these heavy doors open and the gush of wind comes from the sea. There, Deepika enters wearing this white chikankari… I was like, ‘Oh My God’."

2012-2015: Rumours of secret romance brew
 

The couple's courtship period began right from when they featured in Ramleela. However, Deepika's previous relationship and subsequent breakup with Ranbir Kapoor garnered massive media attention which is why she refrained from being vocal about her new romance. The actress self-admittedly confessed that she was not looking for ‘anything serious’ at the time. She said on a talk show, "I was single and he just came out of the relationship. I wanted to be single for a while because I had come out of a couple of difficult relationships.” However, the actress also added that even though they were allowed to see other people, she would keep ‘coming back’ to Ranveer.

2015: Couple gets secretly engaged

 
Speculations about Deepika and Ranveer being in a relationship were rife from 2013 with industry insiders and sources chatting about their romance. The couple's social media activity, public appearances and holidays also fuelled the rumours of them being together. However, neither party had confirmed the same at the time.

It was only in their appearance at a chat show last year that the couple revealed they had been engaged since 2015. Ranveer shared, In 2015, "I proposed to her. Iske pehle ki koi aur ajaye, maine jake chappal rakh deta hun (before someone else does, I decided to).” Elaborating the same he shared, "So Ram Leela happened and we were in this (dating phase). At one point, when I felt right, I decided she was the one. So, I thought before anything could happen just put a ring on it. I was in cahoots with my sister and mom, acquiring the ring. We were going on a holiday and I decided that I'd propose to her on the holiday. I got the ring. And, my folks were like, Are you going to propose? You don't want to consult her parents? I didn't have that degree or maturity back then. I was like, No, I'm marrying her so I'll ask her. So we go to the Maldives and I secretly carry the ring with me and we do the sandbank adventure." The couple's engagement remained a secret for 3 years

2016: When the couple made it official 

By this time, they had already featured together in Ramleela and Bajirao Mastani for which fans were left in awe of their chemistry both in film and during promotions. During Ranveer's famous award performance, Deepika mouthed the words ‘I love you’ which came as a confirmation of their relationship. They were also spotted getting venues holding hands.

2018: Their dreamy wedding at Lake Como

In November 2018, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh finally tied the knot. before the wedding, the couple had shared their invite with fans on social media announcing that they would get married at Lake Como in Italy. Following their foreign, intimate wedding, the couple hosted a series of reception parties for their friends and families in Bangalore and Mumbai.

2019: Newly married seek divine blessing at Tirupati on one-year anniversary 

In November 2019, the couple completed one year as a married couple. To mark the occasion, on November 14 they visited Tirupati Balaji Temple in Andhra Pradesh to seek blessings at the Balaji and Padmavati Temples with their families.

2020: Return to big screens as leading pair 

After a 5-year gap, the actors featured together in the film 83. Directed by Kabir Singh the movie narrated the story of Indian legend cricketer Kapil Dev, essayed by Singh. Deepika played the role of the protagonist's wife in the sports biopic drama.

2023: Deepika Padukone's social media activity births divorce rumours

Social media users and sources close to the couple claimed that they are facing turbulence in their marriage. Several media reports also shared that there is trouble in paradise. Amid this, in June Deepika liked a social media post that read, “Once you’re in a relationship you think it is going to last forever. But in reality, it only lasts when you’re both working for it. If one person stops working, it falls apart.”

This sparked the rumours of all not being well between the stars. Following this debacle, the actress skipped a social media wish for her husband on his birthday in July. This led to social media speculating that they were headed for a divorce.

October 2023: Divorce rumours intensify with Deepika Padukone's 'not exclusive' comment 

While both Ranveer and Deepika maintained their silence on the ongoing divorce rumours, in October they appeared together on the chat show. Using the platform they spoke extensively about their relationship and marriage. The actors even shared their official wedding video with the public for the first time.

Despite this, a comment made by Deepika on the show stole all the limelight. The actress admitted that she was unsure to commit to Ranveer in the early years of their relationship. Her husband's reaction to the same gained widespread attention from netizens, claiming that the revelation seemed to have come as a surprise for him as well. This led to the merciless trolling of Deepika Padukone.

February 2024: Couple announces pregnancy 

On February 29, in a joint social media post, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone announced that are all set to welcome their first baby. The news was met with a lot of enthusiasm from their fans.

May 2024: Ranveer deletes wedding photos 

The couple raised eyebrows once again when Ranveer Singh's Instagram feed suddenly did not feature photos from his wedding. The actor had either deleted or archived the posts, while Deepika still had it on her grid. This led to rumours about the couple parting ways.

May 2024: Ranver dispels divorce rumours 

However, Ranveer Singh's team dismissed the rumours almost as quickly as they arose. A statement by his team read, "It's important to clarify that Singh has simply archived all content predating 2023, including his wedding pictures, rather than specifically deleting them. Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone's Instagram still retains their wedding photos."

Following this, the mom and dad-to-be are often spotted together in public be it for casting their votes or for intimate dinners. The couple even attended the pre-wedding and wedding festivities of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant. Ranveer took to his social media account to sing praises for Deepika Padukone in her recently released film Kalki 2898 AD.

September 2024: Couple embraced parenthood 

The couple announced the birth of their baby girl in an Instagram post on September 8.
