Deepika Padukone was hailed as the ‘Next Big Thing’ in Bollywood after her debut with Om Shanti Om in 2007. The movie had a perfect setting for a launchpad, Shah Rukh Khan, Farah Khan, a ‘masala’ plot, Diwali release, songs and dance and most importantly, a meaty role. The movie was a big hit at the box office, and there was a flurry of offers her way. Some succeeded, some flopped, but there was nothing much to worry as such because she was working with the big stars and looking pretty. However, after Housefull, the actor faced a torrid time at the ticket windows, with many of her films flopping or she not having much to do in them.
Then came Cocktail, which turned out to be a big turning point in her career. Apart from the movie tasting success at the box office, it was a movie that proved that Deepika Padukone can ‘act,’ setting the foundation for many award-winning performances later on. The Chennai Express star now says that the movie opened her up in many ways. She also quipped over the plot of the movie that revolved around a man falling in love with his girlfriend’s best friend, saying that it had not happened with her ever.

Deepika on Cocktail
Deepika Padukone on Sunday attended the Jio MAMI film festival in Mumbai, where she was in conversation with Rajeev Masand and Anupama Chopra. Deepika has been one of the biggest names in Bollywood to open up on mental health, but she had played the character of Veronica in Cocktail much before that. Veronica was an outgoing girl who faces an emotional breakdown after Saif Ali Khan and Diana Penty fall in love with each other. “Veronica opened me up in many ways,” Deepika Padukone shared.

She was also asked if there was a ‘Cocktail’-like moment in her life, where her boyfriend had fallen in love with her best friend. The 33-year-old replied, “Thank God that hasn't happened, test drive mere saath aur ghar le jaao meri best friend Ko. (test drive with me and you take my best friend home).”
