Discrimination against women disturbs me: Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan who is the World Health Organization's Goodwill Ambassador for Hepatitis in South-East Asia Region said women must be treated with respect and dignity.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan on Sunday said he is pained that women who carry hepatitis B virus face discrimination in society, something he will continue to fight for. Sr Bachchan, who is World Health Organization's Goodwill Ambassor for Hepatitis in South-East Asia Region, said women must be treated with respect and dignity. 

"Discrimination against women has been most disturbing for me. This shouldn't happen. Women are half power of country, y are strength of country. y must be given respect and dignity that all deserve," actor said.

"To be discriminated like this just because y are carrying hepatitis B virus is t acceptable. I will fight for this as long as I am alive," he ded.

76-year-old actor was speaking at launch of National Action Plan on combating viral hepatitis in India. He said this discrimination is "condemnable" and was shocked to kw how things unfold for women suffering from disease.

"I have heard such horrific stories where married women were thrown out of ir houses because y were suffering from hepatitis B. I thought if my voice and face can help bring awareness, n I will be gl to do so. If I can be living example for citizens of country that despite being a hepatitis B patient, I am living rmally," he said.
