DIY décor ideas for Diwali

Door garlands, ‘Torans’ from cardboards:

The huge garlands and torans made from flowers are nothing but waste, at times. Diwali is celebrated for several days and flower decorations just turn into garbage after one or two days. You can make torans and garlands from colourful cardboards and craft papers. Use them to make colourful buntings and hang them around the entrance of the house. Simply cut them in interesting shapes and tie them together on a string. These garlands will look as fresh as your flower torans and won't wither away soon.

Paper Cup Lanterns:

Go eco-friendly this Diwali. Instead of investing in expensive plastic lanterns, make your homemade lantern from paper cups. Paper cups are cheap and reusable. All you need is some Paper Cups, wrapping paper, scissors, glue, and of course, the lights. Take different colour wrapping paper and stick them around the cup. Make a small hole at the bottom of the cup and push the bulbs through each cup. You can hang these cups on the sides of the doors or windows.

Fruit Candles:

Fruits are not just to eat. You can use them as a decoration material during Diwali. Diwali is a festival of lights and what is the festival without any candles and diyas in the décor. So now, instead of throwing the orange and sweet lime peels, use them to make a DIY fruit- candle diya. You will need some tea lights and orange or sweet lime peels. Cut the orange/sweet lime in two halves. Scoop out the pulp carefully without spoiling the peel. Once the peels are empty, place tea lights within the peel. You can also give the peel a zig-zag cut design with a sharp pair of scissors. These candles will give you an exotic tangy aroma, all around the room.
