Sushant Singh Rajput-Jacqueline Fernandez’s ‘Drive’ has had a tough journey since its inception. The action thriller, directed by Tarun Mansukhani, went on floors in 2017, but in a strange turn of events, was announced multiple times for release with various dates. Several reports claimed that the movie might never see the light of the day, but all is not lost till it is actually lost. ‘Drive’ is now all set to release on Netflix, the makers have announced.
Delighted crew
The producer of the movie, Karan Johar made the announcement on Twitter, writing, “Shifting into high gear with #Drive! Coming onto your #Netflix screens soon.” He also shared pictures of his lead actors, Sushant Singh Rajput and Jacqueline Fernandez chilling together on a boat.
Tarun Mansukhani, the director, wrote, “SO EXCITED!!! We will be parking into your #Netflix screens soon!”
Jacqueline Fernandez too was excited, “Get out your sunnies, we're bringing the heat #Drive coming soon on @NetflixIndia."
Rollercoaster journey of Drive
Tarun Mansukhani had made the popular ‘Dostana’ starring Priyanka Chopra, Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham. The second installment of ‘Dostana’ was recently announced with Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor and newcomer Lakshya.
‘Drive’ had gone on floors in March 2017. The makers had shared a snap of Sushant Singh Rajput and Jacqueline Fernandez from back view, with the clapboard of the movie.
The movie was supposed to be a franchise as Karan Johar’s caption was, “The FRANCHISE FUN begins....DRIVE directed by @Tarunmansukhani starring @itsSSR and @Asli_Jacqueline starts today!!The first of the series!”
Since then, the makers have announced multiple release dates, none of which were honoured. The first date announced was Holi 2018, the next was September 7, 2018 and the latest one was June 28, 2019, but there was nothing more than a teaser that the makers shared in January earlier this year.
It remains to be seen if the makers continue their plans to take the franchise forward and that might depend on how the movie is received on Netflix.
Sushant is currently riding high on the success of ‘Chhichhore’, which has entered the Rs 100-crore club and is still going strong.
