Ratan Tata is among the highly respected and versatile industrialists in India, with estates of approx. $1.5 billion. While the Tata Group's portfolio spans industries such as automotive, aerospace, power, hotels, IT, retail, and real estate, very few are aware that Ratan Tata also explored the film industry in the early 2000s.

In the early 2000s, Tata ventured into the film industry by co-producing the Bollywood movie Aetbaar, which starred Amitabh Bachchan , John Abraham, Bipasha Basu and Supriya Pilgaonkar. The romantic psychological thriller was released in 2004. The movie was directed by Vikram Bhatt and inspired by the 1996 Hollywood film Fear.
Amitabh Bachchan portrayed Dr Ranveer Malhotra, a protective father determined to shield his daughter, Ria Malhotra (played by Bipasha Basu), from her obsessive partner, Aryan Trivedi (played by John Abraham).
Aetbaar marked Ratan Tata’s first and last movie as a producer
The film was produced by Ratan Tata along with Jatin Kumar and had a budget of ₹9.50 crore. While the film was praised for its gritty storytelling and acting, Aetbaar was a box office disaster. The film earned only ₹7.96 crore at the box office owing to which it did not even recover its production costs. After the big flop, Tata stopped investing in production.
Is Ratan Tata not well?
The former chairperson of the Tata Group was recently admitted to Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital. When the news spread, many feared something serious had happened. However, on Monday, the ex-chairman of Tata Sons clarified that he is simply undergoing routine medical check-ups due to his age and health conditions, reassuring everyone that there is no need for concern.
"I am currently undergoing medical check-ups due to my age-related medical conditions. There is no cause for concern. I remain in good spirits," he said, requesting the public and media to refrain from "spreading misinformation," a statement issued by the industrialist on social media read.
