E-way accident: Police records statement of Shabana Azmi's driver, no arrest yet
Police will file charge sheet on time in the case related to Shabana Azmi's road accident & will call her driver for questioning if required, an official said.

Police will file chargesheet on time in case related to ro accident in which veteran actor Shabana Azmi was injured and will call her driver for questioning again if required, an official said on Tuesday. Azmi (69) was injured when her car met with an accident on Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Saturday last. Her driver, Kamlesh Kamath, has been booked for rash driving and negligence, and Khalapur police, under whose jurisdiction accident took place, have alrey recorded his statement.

Khalapur police station in-charge Vishwajeet Kainge told PTI, "A day after incident, we recorded statement of her driver Kamlesh Kamath, but he has t been arrested. We will call him again to police station if required."
" sections under which he has been booked don't require his immediate arrest. In such cases, we filed chargesheet directly in court. In this case, too, we will file chargesheet on time," he said. Kainge declined to share details of statement given by Kamath to police after accident.
Kamath (38), who suffered mir injuries in crash, has been booked under IPC sections related to rash and negligent driving and also relevant provisions of Motor Vehicles Act.

Azmi was travelling in a Tata Safari Storme when vehicle hit rear-end of a truck on expressway. Kamath was apparently trying to overtake ar vehicle when Azmi's car rammed into truck near Khalapur, about 60km from here in neighbouring Raig district, a local police official earlier said.
