Vishak Nair shares he is playing Sanjay Gandhi not the separatist leader in Emergency
On August 29, Malayali actor Vishak Nair took to his Instagram account to share that he has been receiving death threats ahead of the Emergency release. The actor shared that many believe he is playing the role of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in the Kangana Ranaut directorial which has led to people threatening him. For the unversed, the movie narrates the story of the nationwide Emergency imposed by then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Taking to Instagram, the actor wrote, “For the last few days, I have been receiving death threats, lewd messages and mentions from some people who wrongly believe that I have essayed the role of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in Emergency.
I would like to once again reiterate that I have played the role of Sanjay Gandhi in this film." He concluded the note by writing, "I request the people in question to kindly check your facts before spreading hate and misinformation.”
Emergency runs in trouble with CBFC?
The Kangana Ranaut movie faced another setback before release. The Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs, and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) have demanded an immediate ban on the film Emergency, claiming it tries to “character assassinate” Sikhs. SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami, addressing a press conference, also sought the registration of an FIR against the Kangana Ranaut, the film’s writer, director, producer and lead actor. The religious bodies have also asked for a ban on the film's release.

Amid this, Kangana Ranaut has alleged that the Centre Board Of Film Certification has not yet greenlit the movie to release. She told IANS, "Hopefully. My film will get cleared by the censor. And the day we were about to get the certificate, a lot of people did a lot of drama.” “There are a lot of issues with the censor as well. So I hope it gets released. Because suddenly, as they say, the carpet is pulled from someone's feet. I was very confident that I got the certification. But now they are not giving me my certificate,” she added.
The release of the period political drama has been delayed multiple times; it was previously scheduled to be released on November 24, 2023.
