Friendship Day will be celebrated on August 4 this year and traditionally it is observed on the first Sunday of August. If you're looking for a plan, a movie night with your best friend can never go old. And, if you want some movie suggestions, especially to celebrate female friendships, here are a few that might strengthen your bond.

Dor

Dor (2006) presents one of the finest and most nuanced depictions of female friendship. It demonstrates how women can become each other's strongest allies when faced with patriarchy, entitled men, and outdated social norms.

Despite their differing social and economic backgrounds, the genuine and heartfelt friendship that develops between the two lead actresses, Gul Panag and Ayesha Takia, makes this film a landmark in representing female bonds.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) might seem like just another Bollywood story about young love, but what truly impressed us was the friendship between Naina played by Deepika Padukone and Aditi by Kalki Koechlin

It beautifully celebrates the friendships we form in unexpected places, such as a pub’s restroom or during a train ride, and maintains them for a lifetime. Naina and Aditi stand by each other, disproving the sceptics who believe that close friendships can’t be made in adulthood

Queen

One of the most female-empowering movies in Bollywood is Queen (2014). It has excelled not only due to its remarkable story and outstanding performances. What truly captures our hearts and will remain memorable is the deep friendship between Rani played by Kangana Ranaut and Vijaylaxmi played by Lisa Haydon during Rani’s solo trip to Paris.

This film showcases arguably the best on-screen chemistry between two women in Bollywood. It reminds us of friends who push us out of our comfort zones and lead us to do things that create unforgettable stories. Each of us has a Vijaylaxmi in our lives, and no matter how wild her behaviour might be, her kind heart makes us cherish her deeply

Angry Indian Goddesses

Angry Indian Goddesses (2015) is among the few Bollywood film to focus on an all-female gang. It struck a chord with many of us as we saw ourselves reflected in at least one of the main characters.

The film portrays realistic situations and conversations about sex, life, and what truly matters. It serves as a genuine tribute to female friendships, showing how we always support each other when it comes to our girlfriends.
