Gadar 2 vs OMG 2 box office prediction: Sunny Deol starrer to outshine Akshay Kumar film?

After Barbenheimer, the Indian box office is witnessing its own massive clash with OMG 2 and Gadar 2. Both of the films are going to release on August 11 and will enjoy an extended 5-day weekend due to Independence Day (August 15). Unlike OMG 2, Gadar 2 is going heavy on promotions with Ameesha Patel and Sunny Deol visiting many cities including the Wagah-Attari border. Now, a day ahead of the films' release, here's how the experts think the much-anticipated Bollywood sequels will perform at the box office.

• OMG 2 and Gadar 2 will clash over the extended 5-day weekend.
• Gadar 2 has undergone a lot of promotion, while OMG 2 has been quiet on that front.
• While Gadar 2 has a U/A certificate, OMG 2 was given an A certificate from the Indian censor board.

Gadar 2 to emerge victorious over OMG 2?

While speaking about Gadar 2’s opening day collections, trade analyst Sumit Kadel said that it will mint Rs 30-35 crore. On the same, he said that OMG 2 will end up with a mere Rs 7-9 crore. Kadel said, “Depending on how many shows it gets, it may get affected. But Rs 30-35 crore opening is assured. OMG 2 may collect in the range of Rs 7-9 crore.” 

Ramesh Bala, on the other hand, said Gadar 2 has the potential to reach Rs 25 crore on its opening day. However, he also anticipated an opening range of Rs 7-9 crore for OMG 2.  He said, “For the opening of Gadar 2 I think it would open with 25 crores. OMG 2 would be between 7 to 9 crores.”

Why Gadar 2 may win out at the box office?

Sumit Kadel went as far as to say that this is not a competitive situation at all as Gadar 2 is going to do better than OMG 2 due to its manifold advanced bookings. He added that even Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which is in the second week of its box office run, might give the Akshay Kumar starrer a run for its money. 

“The advance bookings of Gadar 2 are also way, way, way bigger than OMG 2, so I don’t think there’s any sort of competition. In fact, I think that Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani may give tough competition to OMG 2,” said Kadel. 

Bala, on the other hand, noted that both of the films are not in the same league. While he called Gadar 2 a mass entertainer, he claimed OMG 2 will be a ‘niche comedy.’ The trade analyst said, “I think Gadar being a bigger franchise, as Gadar was a one-of-a-kind hit in the industry. OMG 2 is kind of a niche comedy. It’s not a mass movie per se.”

While Sumit Kadel anticipates that Gadar 2 will bring in Rs 120-140 crore in its 5-day extended weekend, Ramesh Bala said that the film is expected to earn around Rs 40-50 crores.
