Gully Boy: Producer Farhan Akhtar ecstatic as film chosen for Oscars

This Boy is going from the Gully to the Oscars. Well, not yet, but it has taken the first step towards it as ‘Gully Boy’ was announced as India’s official entry to the Academy Awards to be held next year. The Zoya Akhtar directorial starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt will be seeking to be only the fourth Indian film to be nominated for the Best Picture at the Oscars. Zoya Akhtar’s brother and one of the producers of the movie, Farhan Akhtar was extremely delighted with the news and thanked the jury for the honour. Farhan Akhtar also congratulated his team that also included Siddhanth Chaturvedi, Kalki Koechlin and Ritesh Sidhwani.

As the Film Federation of Indian jury annonced their decision on Saturday, Farhan Akhtar exulted, “#GullyBoy has been selected as India’s official entry to the 92nd Oscar Awards. #apnatimeaayega Thank you to the film federation and congratulations #Zoya @kagtireema @ritesh_sid @RanveerOfficial @aliaa08 @SiddhantChturvD @kalkikanmani & cast, crew and hip hop crew.”

Gully Boy magic
‘Gully Boy’ is the story of Murad, played by Ranveer Singh, who lives in Mumbai’s Dharavi, one of the biggest slums in the world. ‘Gully Boy’ traces the story of his rise as a rapper that fetches him fame. Apart from rap, his other love and pillar of strength is Safeena, the character played by Alia Bhatt.
The soundtrack of the movie, features as many as many 18 tracks in all, featuring songs from multiple composers. Ranveer Singh has also lent his voice for many songs in the album.

‘Gully Boy’ performed extremely well at the box office. Not just hitting the Rs 100-crore mark, the film earned around Rs 140 crore at the domestic box office.

It was also the first time that Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt worked together on a film. They are now gearing up to work together next in ‘Takht’. The movie, directed by Karan Johar, will also star Vicky Kaushal, Janhvi Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar and Anil Kapoor.
For Zoya Akhtar, it is her first film that has entered the Rs 100-crore club at the box office. Zoya is yet to announce her full-fledged next film, but she scripted the web series ‘Made in Heaven’ earlier this year. She is also set to direct a short film in ‘Ghost Stories’ which will also have films made by Karan Johar, Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee.
