Gully Boy: Producer Farhan Akhtar ecstatic as film chosen for Oscars

This Boy is going from Gully to Oscars. Well, t yet, but it has taken first step towards it as ‘Gully Boy’ was anunced as India’s official entry to Academy Awards to be held next year. Zoya Akhtar directorial starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt will be seeking to be only fourth Indian film to be minated for Best Picture at Oscars. Zoya Akhtar’s bror and one of producers of movie, Farhan Akhtar was extremely delighted with news and thanked jury for hour. Farhan Akhtar also congratulated his team that also included Siddhanth Chaturvedi, Kalki Koechlin and Ritesh Sidhwani.

Gully Boy magic
‘Gully Boy’ is story of Murad, played by Ranveer Singh, who lives in Mumbai’s Dharavi, one of biggest slums in world. ‘Gully Boy’ traces story of his rise as a rapper that fetches him fame. Apart from rap, his or love and pillar of strength is Safeena, character played by Alia Bhatt.

For Zoya Akhtar, it is her first film that has entered Rs 100-crore club at box office. Zoya is yet to anunce her full-fledged next film, but she scripted web series ‘Made in Heaven’ earlier this year. She is also set to direct a short film in ‘Ghost Stories’ which will also have films made by Karan Johar, Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee.
