Sampooran Singh Kalra, popularly known by his pen name 'Gulzar' is celebrating his birthday on Sunday, August 18. The legendary lyricist who is known for his immense contribution to Indian cinema was showered with wishes as he turned 85 years old. Wishes pour in from several Bollywood celebrities including Riteish Deshmukh, Vicky Kaushal & Urmila Matondkar, who extended love and greetings to the veteran poet-filmmaker.

Riteish Deshmukh
Sharing a picture with the veteran artist on Instagram, Riteish Deshmukh extended best greetings for the day. He hailed Gulzar's work in the post and said, "Your words make life even more beautiful.."
Urmila Matondkar
Actress turned politician Urmila Matondkar also wished Gulzar with a heartwarming social media post. She shared a picture with him where she can be seen embracing him, and quoted a stanza from a famous song of the ace lyricist on Twitter, which roughly translates to, 'Without you, I have no complaint from life.' She further wrote, "Can we ever thank you enough for making our lives so much more beautiful #HappyBirthdayGulzar the humblest living legend."

Bollywood's latest heartthrob Vicky Kaushal also shared a picture with Gulzar in his Instagram story and wished him a very happy birthday.

Singer Shankar Mahadevan also paid tribute to the legendary lyricist. Sharing a picture with the veteran on his Twitter handle and wrote, "Happy Birthday #GulzarSahabLots of love!!"
Kapil Sharma
Actor-comedian Kapil Sharma also extended greetings to Gulzar Sahab. He shared a picture with the poet on Instagram and penned an emotional note.
Gulzar Sahab who started his career as a lyricist with music director S.D. Burman in the 1963 film 'Bandini' and worked with several A-listers of the industry including R. D. Burman, Salil Chowdhury, Vishal Bhardwaj, and A. R. Rahman. He is the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award — the highest award in Indian cinema and was awarded Padma Bhushan in 2004, the third-highest civilian award in India. He has also won several other national awards.
