Hum Saath Saath Hai: A modern-day Ramayana retelling

Hum Saath Saath Hai is a cult classic Bollywood movie that focuses on the family values, relationships, and ethics of the day to day life. The movie strongly showcases the point that humbleness is important even in prosperity. The film can be considered a modern-day retelling of Ramayana, where the eldest son of the family is exiled from the family due to misunderstandings and the younger sons go against the decision of their parents and support their elder loving and caring brother.

The plot of the movie revolves around the Chaturvedi Family. The head of the family, Ramkishan Chaturvedi, played by Alok Nath, is a very successful businessman and a happy father of four children. He is married to Mamta. They are a very happy family and all the members of the family share a very strong bond, until one day, Mamta’s friends corrupt her by filling her head with ill thoughts. This is very similar to the story of Ramayana, where Dasharatha’s wife Kaikeyi is corrupt by her servant Manthara, who fills her head with ill thoughts against Rama, the rightful heir of the Kingdom, so that her son Bharat can become the King.

In the movie, Mamta gives in to the temptations and wants her son Prem, played by Salman Khan, to be the head of the business. As the story unfolds, these characters overcome the misunderstandings and ill feelings and the eldest son is bought back as the head of the family business. Hum Saath Saath Hai can be considered as the retelling of the epic Ramayana and it was loved by the audience all over the world.
