Some speculations claimed that this movie was based on life of Indian cricketer, Raman Lamba. director of film, Gowtam Tinnanuri slammed rumours by stating that film was t based on a true story. According to telugucinema.com, Gowtam Tinnanuri said that plot of this film was completely unique. Furr, he also said that re was link between film and late cricketer.

Drawing inspiration from real-life instances:

Although Jersey is t a biographical film, director did draw some inspiration from real-life instances experienced by or cricketers. In film, protagonist turns down offer of an assistant coach. Furr, he restarts his career at of 36 even when he is opposed by his family. Here, director seems to have drawn some inspiration from cricketer player, Raman Lamba who was top scorer in 1996-97 Ranji Trophy season. Raman scored 1034 runs. Furr, he too was 36 at that time.

During climax, protagonist suffers from a heart problem due to which he decides to give up his career. Here cricketer seems to have drawn inspiration from an England based cricketer named James Taylor. James too had to give up his career due to his heart condition.
