However, according to IMDB, Lagaan h many similarities to an old Bollywood film Bhuvan Shome released in 1969 -- like both films have same narrator. Suhasini Mulay who played female le in Bhuvan Shome played le actor's mor in Lagaan. Also, both movies were shot in Gujarat.

Lagaan movie plot

In year 1893, villrs of Champaner await meeting ir Raja. y want to ask for an exemption from tax (Lagaan) but Raja is busy watching British play a match of cricket. A young farmer named Bhuvan mocks game. This is overheard by company captain, Andrew Russell who later challenges Bhuvan to a game of cricket in return for canceling ir tax, a bet that Bhuvan accepts.

Despite protests from vill, Bhuvan gars a few supporters and n y try to learn game of cricket. Elizabeth, Captain Russell's visiting younger sister, approaches m, offering to help. She wants to teach m game so that match is played fairly. Bhuvan is delighted, and group starts meeting Elizabeth at grounds outside vill to learn game.

Later on, several or villrs join to support Bhuvan in this strange bet. On day of match, everyone is pretty sure that Bhuvan’s team will lose match but quickly tables turn and Bhuvan’s team wins match. In end, 
farmers of vill enjoy first rainfall of monsoon as rain pour downs and look happy realising fact that y don't have to pay for taxation for next three years.
